Not for nothing but in Illinois, you are supposed to have an off switch for the dishwasher as well. Which makes a kind of sense if you need to really cut the power quickly if the dishwasher decides to eat your kitchen.

Also, I'm always surprised and jealous of all those remodeling shows where the electrical is all Romex. Illinois requires all electrical to go through conduit.

I've lived in Illinois all my life in numerous places with dishwashers and have never seen one with a switch. Inspector didn't mention it on my current home either.

It's not that it's a hard fix, but if that really is an apprentice on his first time he's just handed everyone else he works with something to give him poo poo about for an indefinite amount of time until someone else fucks up in a funnier way.

This and also the fact that his brain is probably still firmly in 'plumbing' mode and all he can think about now is that he has to undo all the poo poo he just did. Hopefully somebody pulled the hinge pins not long after the video cut.

In Springfield, Illinois, is the Dana-Thomas House. It is pretty amazing (even down to the custom made glass for the right color profile on the inside and reflectivity on the outside) and the custom furniture. If you are ever there, I highly recommend it. It is flipping huge, but one of Wright's attractive but functional structures.

I am absolutely in love with the Dana-Thomas House. I'm not an architecture or building nerd by any stretch, but I've taken the tour a couple times now and I love it. Everything from the water fixtures to the desk lamps and dining chairs all work together beautifully. Even my wife was impressed when the tour was over and I'm pretty sure she didn't give the most minuscule of shits when we first got there.

This is maybe 1/4 mile from my house. Thankfully, the way the river and street curve, I'm nowhere near it myself and am (in theory) in no danger of my yard and foundation falling down an embankment.

The residents (just renters, owners live in FL) had 20 minutes to go back in and get what they wanted/needed. In some ways it's worse than a fire, because at least then it's all at once, and you're just like "welp, all gone."

My power vent water heater keeps shutting off. Amongst the several issues it could be, one is a clogged and/or dirty vent. So, I removed the power vent unit & cleaned it of a fairly heavy amount of dust (it's near the catbox table, which has five catboxes). So, I figured that the intake might need some attention.

So we're redoing a closet in one of our spare rooms and as I'm pulling down some shelves I take a step close to the wall and the floor feels... soft? My immediate thought was "oh gently caress what's wrong with the subflooring" thinking I had a big rotten spot due to a leak or something equally disastrous. Felt the spot with my hands and had a second thought of "the edges are awfully defined... spot's pretty small... no loving way..." Cut a little slit and poked a big screw in it and all three inches of that screw went right in without issue.

Started cutting carpet and confirmed my suspicion.

They just carpeted right over the vent. I found another one the next day in my closet.

So that's fun. My closet is already less cold and dreadful. Apparently my wife posted our findings in some neighborhood Facebook group and multiple people have found sealed up vents as well.
