I have 2 questions for current Wii U owners. I am thinking about buying a refurbished Wii U from Nintendo for $200. Is it worth it or should I just pay the full $300 for a new one? Second as a PS4 owner, am I stupid for wanting a Wii U just to play Mario Kart 8, New Super Mario Bros., and the new Zelda when it comes out? The last Nintendo console I loved was the N64, but I have nostalgia for Nintendo first party games. The Rayman game for the PS4 scratched that itch, but still it is no Mario. I just want to feel like as a gamer I spent my money wisely.
There's a simple test for whether or not the Wii U is for you: Do you enjoy Nintendo games? If yes, go ahead and buy it; their first party output on the platform has been absolutely stellar so far. If not, don't bother (and why are you even asking in the first place). As to your other question, I haven't heard about any drawbacks of buying refurbished but since that's not what I did, others might know more about that.

I can just barely grab it without touching the ground as peach but I can't get through the area after without taking a hit, she can't move fast enough to hover over all the spikes.

E: Welp, there's a game over. Earlier on you have to move around the spotlights but here it just takes up the entire platform.
If I'm thinking of the right spot here then you can just hide from the spotlight under those (destructible) brick blocks to make the spikes go away.

Wait, it does? Because that doesn't follow at all from what he said (which of course doesn't mean it isn't true, which I've no clue if it is). From what he said I had just assumed it was a fan-made patch/hack that allowed the Wii U to run original Gamecube disks when in Wii mode (you know, like the original Wii did). Though I've no clue where the Gamecube controller inputs would be coming from in that scenario :v:

That's not even true, using the gold Tanooki suit in 3D World won't lock you out of anything, it will just show up as the stars displayed on your save file not sparkling. Use it to your heart's content if you don't care about that, and just replay whatever level you used it in to beat it without, otherwise. Be warned though that you won't get a gold Tanooki suit in the final level of the game, no matter how many times you die, so using it a lot in the earlier levels will leave you woefully unprepared for the challenge of that level. Not like there's anything that COULD prepare you for that, though :v:

It should probably also be pointed out that outputting the Wii U to a computer monitor will lead to some loss in color range, because the Wii U only supports limited mode HDMI, whereas computer monitors usually expect their input to be in full range RGB. This will lead to washed out colors with dark areas appearing too bright and bright areas too dark, and blacks displayed as a dark grey and whites as a very light grey instead.

But we live in the modern world so I'd recommend just using save states liberally at money making game to max out rupees and forget about it.
The real trick to grinding rupees in the original LoZ is to use a guide to look up where all of those hidden "it's a secret to everyone!" caves are.

EDIT:

Renoistic posted:

Oh wow so now I want to use it even less. It's too bad about the money grind because the game seems to hold up really well otherwise!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll see how far I can get without resorting to using a map.
Don't not use a map when playing the original LoZ, it was never intended to be played that way, by yourself and finding all the secrets on your own. The game originally came with a map of a good part of the overworld, even. From there on you were supposed to hear about secret rooms and the like from friends who were also playing the game at the same time as you, while you told them of the ones you found that they hadn't. And grinding money from enemy drops is dumb, there's so many rupees to be found in hidden locations. Also the bow & arrows is one of the most useful items in the game, you just have to pay the one-time fee for the arrows (and it's not 250 rupees if you know which shop to buy the upgrade from, don't pay 250 rupees, look up the shop where they sell it for less than half that instead) and then you can plink away.

This is correct. And NSMBU is the best of the New Super Mario Bros. games (except the Luigi DLC for it is even better), so if you're only going to play one it is the one to get. Oh and don't listen to the guy who said not to get Skyward Sword, in my opinion it's one of the better recent Zelda games. The problem with the recent Zelda games (except maybe ALBW) is that each of them excells only at parts of what makes Zelda a popular franchise in the first place, so the post-OOT 3D Zelda games are rather divisive, depending on what you want out of the experience. Some people really like Twilight Princess but hate Skyward Sword, but for me, for example, it is exactly the other way around. So my advice is to play them all and make up your own mind about them.
EDIT: Also, absolutely do not play Zelda in "timeline order" or anything crazy like that, in fact, just ignore the timeline completely, it's irrelevant nonsense. Just play them in the order they were released in.

It's more like you they are used in the dungeon and immediately after to advance, but that's it for most things. The Ball & Chain is the worst offender, but the Dominion Rod and Spinner are also offenders. The Gale Boomerang was cool, and obviously the Clawshot was vital, but those are both series staples.

Also don't forget "YOU FOUND A BLUE RUPEE (5)" and "YOU FOUND A PURPLE RUPEE! That's 50 Rupees! ... But your wallet is full so you put it back."

Contrast with Skyward Sword which manages the sneak the beetle, gust bellows, whip and digging mitts into tons of puzzles later on. I am a big fan of Skyward Sword because of the excellent dungeons and amazing boss fights (ignoring the Imprisoned and the stupid cyclops sea monster), great puzzles, upgrade system, and beautiful art direction. I will say that the Imprisoned fights and the Silent Realms are awful. And the sky was poorly implemented. And I think it would've been nice if you had visited a wider variety of locations, especially during the part with the dragons near the end. But I still like the game.

THE GROOSENATOR!

Edit: Twilight Princess was made to be exactly like Ocarina of Time to appease fanboys, and not surprisingly it suffers from a lot of the same problems that Ocarina did.
And to be fair, I think the cyclops monster was still kind of a decent boss fight in itself, if (like pretty much all Zelda bosses) way too easy, it just had a really dumb design. The imprisoned, on the other hand ... well ... :sigh:

In general, though, I think both SS and TP had some of the best dungeon designs in the entire series and are about equal on that front, even though TP has more of them. All told though I don't think the great dungeon design can save TP from all the other bullshit it throws at you like that stupid, mandatory covered wagon escort mission and those mandatory QTE-like jousts across bridges that the game just suddenly and for no good reason throws at you out of nowhere; even those repeated imprisoned fights have nothing on that kind of bullshit.
