Strange request, can somebody identify the comic my avatar is from? Snipped it ages ago and now can't remember.

It's a comic where an elephant goes and buys a lottery ticket and he has number 5 but the result is 4 or something. I thought it was Gunshow but I had a look and couldn't find it on there.

You were right about it being KC Green! Look for Elephant Got No Luck.

As a Brit married to a Coloradoan I've been waiting for this one. Not bad, not bad.

The Buggery Bandits is a name thought up either by someone who doesn't have a solid understanding of what buggery means or someone who knows exactly what they were doing (it must be the second one).

The first time I stayed with my (now) in-laws, I was trying to be on my best behavior and limited my swearing to bugger, which made sense at the time, and its variations. I didn't anticipate having to explain to my father-in-law (who genuinely seemed not to know) what it means though...

It took me a while to get into Achewood, I think mainly because of how wordy it can be and how tiny the text is on my phone. But I'm glad I stuck with it because you all were right, it has an amazing strength and consistency of character voices and some simply delightful turns of phrase.

Speaking of Wakako-Zake though, we've only got about 40 more chapters until the translation runs out. For some reason, I didn't expect there would be much more beyond that, but I just had a peek at the site where the original is hosted and not only is it still going, it's now up to chapter 530. The art style has changed a fair bit as well - Wakako is now a little more conventionally cute, hardly gremlinlike at all.

Frankly, I prefer the previous look.

Check out the source chapter here in Japanese - it's about eggs benedict!

Gremlin Wakako is definitely the better Wakako. 530 is an absurd number of chapters as well!

Boss brought in an absolutely ancient historian to give a lecture all about Okinawan history to the staff and old boy absolutely went off on one about mainland Japan and it's treatment of Okinawa. It was! He also said a bunch of wild poo poo that, even as a lay person, I thought, "Now that seems a little out there, mate." One of my colleagues has a history degree and came out of the meeting absolutely livid. "He can't say [thing] as fact! X, Y, and Z alone make his claim highly unfeasible!" It was a complete mess lol.

Okinawa has a lot going for it and I love living here. But on the other hand, today started with a North Korean missile alert and now we're all working from home for the next two days because a typhoon is heading straight for us. So, you know, swings and roundabouts.

Having your phone scream the emergency alert noise at you unexpectedly at 6:30am really starts to wake you up quick. Realising that the one word you can understand in the alert means 'missile' just slams the wake up process into hyperdrive.

Chiming in as another who's just here enjoying the comics but not much of a poster.

Shinozaki: Really, really like it even if I was getting worn down by quite how many characters recently have been "[trait] and really loud". Maybe it's not actually that many but my reaction to the repository kidnappers was definitely "ah we're shouting a lot again"

What Happens Next... is interesting and I once again broke and read ahead. But I don't think any character involved has even heard of good decisions let alone tried to make one. Obviously there are Reasons but ooof.

Monya I literally forgot about between postings but it's really fun and sweet. Like it a lot! Q-Rais' Night Visitors are delightful too. Get outta here, landlord!

Tall Penguin is great but Future Boyfriend can take a long walk off a short pier!

The Boy She Liked... aka Green Lesbians feels like it has slowed to the same continental drift speed that every anime romance works at but I like the art and those two green dumb-asses enough to just go (slowly) with it. Whoever said linking pinkies was basically a marriage proposal isn't wrong lmao

K6BD absolutely fuckin rules in every way.

Beanworld is fascinating and I am a complete idiot for not noticing that Mr Spook is clearly Hoi Polloi in some way until someone actually said it. I think Beanish deserves better though!

Demon is ridiculous in many good ways.

Accidental Space Spy has that good good Thorsby farce and I enjoy his completely mad biotruths but the connective tissue is definitely much much weaker than the others of his posted here.

Tredlocity / Val & Isaac always gets at least a chuckle.

Prince Valiant I am sorry but I can't get over your dumb haircut. Pretty to look at though!

Boba's drive to create and evolve as an artist is rad as hell to watch. Just very cool!

I will admit I don't get School of World or Extra Ordinary. Just not for me!

Yup. I believe it is a legal requirement? The way my school explained it to us (and take this with a grain of salt because my school absolutely sucks) is you either do it for free when they schedule it, or you have to do it on your own dime. My guess would be an iffy machine translation that wasn't caught by whoever put it all together? Not uncommon for close phonemes like ko/go to get muddled in my experience. One of my coworkers has a name that ends in 'tsu' but machine translation will consistently translate it as "zu".

Did you know you can go to kushi katsu places where you do the whole thing yourself?

1. Go to the buffet-style selection of raw ingredients (meat, veggies, etc. on sticks) and select what you like.
2. Return to your table and use the shared table dishes of batter and panko breadcrumbs to coat your stick food as you like.
3. Shove your stick food into the small trough of incredibly hot deep-frying oil that sits in the middle of the table to fry it.
4. Check the menu for cooking times. Cook.
5. Pray to God you timed this right.
6. Eat.

Ditto on both points. Kit Walker really summed up why I'm struggling with Great and, personally, the constant sense of "nobody here is actually happy or at least won't be for long" over a series of this length is not for me. I'll keep reading it out of grim curiosity but it's not something I'll ever go back to. I remember really liking Minus though when it was coming out! Would be interesting to see how that holds up.

With the cultists, I definitely thought, "Wait am I an idiot for not noticing this anime club thing before now?"
