my god, matrix 4 blew rear end. i honestly don't remember much about the first matrix movie, let alone the rest of that trilogy, but i remember it at least being fun and looking cool. even the action sequences were bad in this one, just marvel-esque boredom and working around the fact that keanu is too old to carry an action movie. that's ignoring the plot which was just 90% incomprehensible exposition and character moments for what amounts to extras. i don't care about - and i had to look up their names - sati, sequoia, sheperd, berg, lexy, bugs or any of those central casting losers.

why would a scene where you fire bullets at a guy whose main deal it has been established is stopping bullets be in any way suspenseful??? why were there cutesy robot sidekicks?

Blue Eyed Samurai was too all over the place for me. it never picked a tonal lane and the writing/direction wasn't strong enough to justify the unevenness.

At first, you get this exploration of Japanese geopolitical history not well-known by Americans and the interplay of race and gender within it. But then you have all the actors speaking very contemporary American English and have goofy slapstick superpower fights. I was excited to see them build up the Wolverine Clan but that she could move on in the story without fighting all of them and then end up flopping into a half hour fight sequence anyway.

Even in the puppet show episode people highlight for good storytelling, the creators don't have enough faith in their audience. They couldn't decide between showing or telling and settled on cutting between the puppet show telling Mizu's backstory and then just showing that part of Mizu's backstory.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to find out that Netflix execs were severely meddling with the show. The needledrops in episodes 1 and 5 were pretty grating and reek of an EP going "just make it Kill Bill".
