I preordered Prey :negative: The demo really clicked for me and I kept thinking about it over the weekend. The recent Deus Ex game left me wanting and I haven't played Dishonored 2 yet, but I'll take sci-fi over fantasy if I have to choose. I liked walking into a room and being rewarded for slowly examining the space instead of rushing through. Seeing two buckets next to a wet floor sign let me plan an attack in a way that's similar but very different to finding an enemy with his back to you. I also like that it eschews an xp system so there's no incentive to restrict yourself to half the tools available; DE always gives more xp for ghosting an area or for non-lethal takedowns, which meant that your loud and deadly moveset was a hindrance. In the Prey demo, exploration leds to items with tangible benefits, and even at the low end of the benefit spectrum is the ability to convert things into materials for fabricating ammo or medkits. My gripes are that I had to leave some locked safes and rooms unexplored because I couldn't find a way to open them, and that there aren't enough shortcut options for the controller (only three to cover melee, utility, ranged, and psi abilities). I know the rule about never preordering games, but I'm a sucker for that Amazon discount and I love System Shock.

I'm more excited to hear what Mick Gordon has in store for the music. As a reminder he did the music for DOOM and the Killer Instinct reboot.

so that's five games right there you could have a good time with if you enjoy 'em! (...well if you have their ports/a PS2. NIS needs to hurry up on porting them to steam.)

I always wanted to try Soul Nomad because I heard the evil path gets really dark. Also the full title sounds like a high school garage band: Soul Nomad and the World Eaters

I tried playing that fan translation on PCX2 but some graphic elements wouldn't show when using the GPU so the only option was to use software mode and that made the game run slower. This was a few years ago, however.

I'll say this much; Doom's demo isn't great outside of setting the ridiculous tone. It's too short, linear, and doesn't give you the options that make the game great. It's fine as an introduction to the full campaign, and the following level really gets going, but it's not the best showpiece.

For some clarification: Im not saying its the best fps ever, just one that hit my personal fancies all together at the right time.

It also helps that the colors and music were a change of pace from other popular shooters. And that 2012 was one of the last years before I realized that fps is not an enjoyable genre for me on average.

Syndicate FPS did ooze alot of cyberpunk style and it stands out to me because of that. I wish they could have went with a less clichéd story but eh I'll take something rather than nothing. I never got to play the multiplayer because it was dead by the time I got around to it. Looked really cool because you were basically running old style Syndicate missions except you were the agent rather than the mission overseer.

And if you don't enjoy FPS's much than DOOM won't change your mind.
