Chris Roberts doesn't know what any of this is, but game developers do. And it's generally to allow for parallel tracks in development between gameplay, player models and environment by decoupling progress in each of the tracks. Which CI~G doesn't appear to have been doing as they've been showing cinematic, whitebox and greybox at completely different times and in entirely different contexts. A bunch of broken assets t-posing around an empty looking map to make sure the gameplay is fun and working. Then, as the mechanics of the game come together, you start to apply art assets. Star Citizen literally does this backwards, adding million-polygon spaceships who's function doesn't exist in the game yet. Edit: it also means that you can find flaws in the game and change them before you pay an artist a ton of money to complete an asset that needs to be changed.

He has not designed this game, and he has no idea what it is or what he wants it to be. "Visionary developer" Chris Roberts literally believes, without irony, that high-fidelity assets will just assemble themselves into a game once you "add in" physics, like seasoning a stew. He thinks that graphics first is actually the way to make a game, and everyone else is backwards. He's one of the dumbest people of all time - there's a reason this shitshow has broken ground so frequently in the "OMGWTF" territory that traditional game development studios just can't match.

I have a slightly different theory that he's one of those people who starts to ghost when the going gets tough, and he must have known that the going wasn't going to be great when for three years running his big reveal was hosed over. From the 'this is bullshit' to the weird later appearances and the final 'You can bank on December 16th' that preceeded the year long patch drought. I think the 'absolving' video is the point where he'd started to step back and let the professionals they hired try to salvage the thing. When anyone talks about Chris' successes, his _last_ was the Wing Commander movie. Let that sink in. I mean, I know we don't have to, but he spunked cash on his vision before, and it led to bad muppets.

Chris has no ideas so there's nothing to whitebox. But by making high-fidelity assets and pasting them into a model-viewer like Space Colorforms in Space his screenshots make it look like he's a legendary game developer who's almost finished with his masterpiece, instead of the nearly-strangled hand-waving drooling fraud that he is.

It's not even that it's boring, it's that it goes out of its way to actively suppress fun at almost every turn. People wonder why nobody is watching Star Citizen streams and the answer is two-fold: First, nobody gives enough of a poo poo about this game to watch it besides the mega-whales who dream of sitting at a tall desk giving orders to their crack troops, and second it is deeply, depressingly boring to watch. ==Mark Hamill likes one of Star Citizen's tweets== https://twitter.com/Jobbo_Fett/status/1144671894135812098 Rotten Red Rod posted:Holy poo poo, that is some peak cringe.
